Leon Czolgosz
Anarchist
Traveled to Buffalo, NY where he knew President William McKinley was for the Pan-American Exposition
Or possibly he’d moved to Buffalo? (There’s conflicting info out there…)
Hid a gun under a handkerchief and shot the president twice
McKinley ask that no one hurt his shooter
McKinley died eight days later
Theodore Roosevelt, who had been “kicked upstairs” to the vice presidency to keep him out of trouble, became our youngest president (still is, to this day) at 42 years old
He confessed “I killed President McKinley because I done my duty. I didn’t believe one man should have so much service, and another man should have none.”
Czolgosz was found guilty and executed by electrocution
His last words were perhaps “I killed the president because he was the enemy of the good people—the working people.”
